A unique structure, the Ice House was built during the 1830's during the Sherrod's stewardship of the property.  During the winter, ice from nearby freshwater sources could be brought in and stored here.  Materials such as sawdust or straw could be broadcast to cover the ice, thus providing effective insulation.  Ice could be stored by this method as long as into the early to mid-summertime.
