Historic American Building Survey
In 1933, the U.S. Park Service established the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) as a make-work program for architects, draftsmen and photographers left jobless by the Great Depression.
This photographic survey of Pond Spring and the Wheeler Home was conducted during the 1930's and the original prints are in the Library of Congress.
By creating an archive of historic architecture, HABS provided a database of valuable material for historic preservation.
