Pond Spring, the Gen. Joe Wheeler Home is currently undergoing restoration and preservation work, this managed by the Alabama Historical Commission. To facilitate this important work, it was necessary to close the museum building to tours on 1 January 2000. Although the grounds had been open to the public since 2000, new restoration work will require the closing of the site grounds beginning 29 November 2004.
